Understanding Tier 1: Schoolwide PBIS

Tier 1 is the foundation of this multi-tiered framework. This Tier is for all students and promotes positive behavior which improves classroom learning. Tier 1 focuses on building a positive school environment which spills over into the classroom.

Teachers begin by clearly communicating the expected behaviors and procedures for the school. Using engaging strategies such as catchy phrases or fun posters helps students quickly understand how to conduct themselves. Students have an easier time remembering school's rules when they are memorable and accessible.

Teachers are able to sets the stage for success with clear predictable and consistent behavior expectations. When students are recognized and celebrated for their good choices it boost their self-esteem and helps them grow into better classmates and students.
The aim is to prevent problems, promote respect and responsibility, and create a thriving school. When we encourage student to display positive behaviors schools see fewer discipline issues and see more academic success.
