● What is Tier 2?
○ Tier 2 includes targeted actions for students with noticeable behavioral issues. It emphasizes personalized attention, either one-on-one or in small groups, to address specific needs. For example, young children often struggle with social skills, leading to outbursts and conflicts. Teachers use Tier 2 strategies to work with students while gathering data to assess their effectiveness. This process requires patience, as some students adapt quickly while others need more time.

● How do students move to Tier 2
When a student is not progressing within Tier 1 support, they will transition to Tier 2. This shift happens when a student shows minor behavior issues or is at risk of developing bigger problems. For example, a student in a first-grade class starts getting upset with his work and tears it up regularly. The Teacher recognizes this as a sign that the student might need additional support beyond what Tier 1 offers. In this situation, 1:1 interventions may be introduced, concentrating on emotional regulation and academic assistance. These interventions will help the student learn to recognize and express his feelings in a positive way, as well as get him the academic help that he needs.

Components/Principles of Tier 2
Tier 2 focuses on key components designed to help students effectively correct their behavior through interventions. Some of those components are: academic interventions, Check-In/Check-Out with a staff member, Mentoring, and social skill interventions. Each of these elements is essential for helping students who need more than basic support but aren't ready for intense interventions yet.
